  The Victory

Buy our model of the Victory

The Victory was built from the plans of Sir Thomas Slade, surveyor to the Navy, in 1765, in the Cothan arsenal at Chatham, England.  The fifth and last ship of the British Navy to bear this name, the Victory had 104 canons of different types and carried up to 850 men on board.  The first was a merchant ship of 800 tons, built in 1559 as the Great Christopher.  The Victory became famous as the English flagship at the battle of Trafalgar in Jercis in 1805, under the command of Admiral Lord Nelson.

Today, you can admire the preserved HMS Victory at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, England.  Alongside her is a small maritime museum called the Victory Museum.
