The Mary Rose was the flagship in King Henry VIII's fleet. The Mary Rose was built in the early 1500's and launched in 1511.  The ship mysteriously sank off Portsmouth, during a battle with the French fleet in 1545.

The Mary Rose was raised from the ocean-bed in 1982, after many years of archaeological work and excavation. Today, its hull (which was preserved in silt) and many leather and wooden artefacts recovered from the ship are on display in the Tudor Room, at the Queen's House.
