The Flying Fish was built in Essex, Massachusetts, USA. Its large sails and unusual construction for its era meant it was one of the fastest schooners at a time when speed on the world's oceans was crucial. The design of the Flying Fish has since dominated the schooner class generally, and remains a popular model still built today.
