Search site

After sailing from Indonesia in search of gold, the crew of the Duyfken (Little Dove) sighted Cape York Peninsula in Northern Australia in 1606.  The Dutch crew of the Duyfken, under the command of Willem Janszoon, became the first Europeans known to have sighted Australia and to chart a large part of Australia's coastline.

A life-size replica of the Duyfken, built in the West Australian port of Fremantle, successfully completed a voyage retracing the route taken by its forbearer.  After being moored on the Swan river in Perth in an unsuccessful attempt to keep the replica in WA, the Duyfken is now based in Queensland.

For more information on the Duyfken replica and if you would like to help keep the Duyfken afloat, please visit the Duyfken Foundation's website at: www.duyfken.com
