The Cutty Sark, launched in 1869, is the most famous of the British tea clippers. Its reputation was forged in its voyages to China and Australia. After its use as a tea carrier, the Cutty Sark was used on the Australian wool route. The Cutty Sark is in a dry dock at Greenwich in England. The Cutty Sark is the only preserved tea clipper, however an unfortunate fire in June 2007 destroyed much of its timbers. Some elements, such as the wheel and figurehead, have successfully been preserved. |
