The Cotre (1815 -1850) was a 14-gun cutter. The English made intensive use of this type of little ships as coasting vessels, pilot ships, privateers and smuggling vessels. The Royal Navy also used them for the repression of smuggling and as coast guard vessels.  Some cutters took long trips, namely the Pandour, which escorted the Bailiff of Suffren to India.
